The Trilogy of Time by Russ Cayer is a narrative featuring three poems that tell three different stories. These stories explore various aspects of the human condition. The first poem, "In Days of Yore," illustrates human conflict in a medieval setting, with opposing forces trying to impose their will on the world through war, deception, diplomacy, and love. In "Shakespeare's Play," a professor in a classroom invites his students to discuss Shakespeare's hypothetical opinions on the state of modern society. However, real-world issues and political divides seem far more complex in a society that has become increasingly fractured. In "UAP," a blinding light hovering over a city leads to a gathering of people from all over, unexpectedly making people unite under the umbrella of humanity.
The Trilogy of Time is a thought-provoking piece of work. This poetic narrative will make you think while leaving you with a lot to ponder about humanity in general. Russ Cayer uses free verse poetry to explore the human experience through different eras, intricately weaving a narrative that is both a reflection and a critique of humanity. But these poems don't just showcase the ills of society. They also offer hope by showing some of the better facets of humanity, which can bring solutions to problems that human civilizations have faced throughout the ages. I found the poems thoroughly engrossing. The poem "Shakespeare's Play" perfectly captures the current climate that has fragmented society across the political spectrum, especially in America. Overall, I think this is a very illuminating and relevant poetry collection, and I highly recommend it.
